GMAI Organizes II Forum on Investment in Film and Audiovisual Media

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), organized the II Global Forum on Investment in Film and Audiovisual Media (II Foro Mundial de Inversión en Cine y Medios Audiovisuales), November 23 – 26, 2008. The conference was directed towards industry and diplomatic representatives interested in learning about how to maximize investment in the area of cinematography and audiovisual media. The objective of the forum was to equip participants with the information necessary to create effective investment proposals and provide recommendations regarding how best to profit from acquired funds. As it relates to drafting funding proposals, participants were encouraged to consider relevant factors such as industry monopolies, economic crisis and corporate mergers and restructurings.
Representatives from Warner Brothers, NALIP, Telemundo TV Azteca, Cinemark, América Latina EFICINE, Asociación de periodistas de espectaculos y cultura, Hispana de Producción, Second Try Films, Beliere Entertainment, Centro de Exportación e Inversión de la República Dominicana, Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Universidad de Habana, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and other institutions attended the forum.
GMAI is dedicated to providing professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.
GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
