GMAI, One Race Film Foundation and NYU’s Opportunity Programs Organize Screenwriters Group

GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute joined together with Once Race Global Film Foundation and New York University’s Opportunity Programs in July 2008 to organize a Screenwriting Group. NYU’s Opportunity Programs Multimedia Director, Irving Vicent, has met with students of former television and film workshops in order to form this group. Meetings have taken place via Internet, and have recently involved the participation of students from Santiago as well.

With the objective of improving the writing capacity of the country’s future screenwriters, on November 8 and 9, GMAI in collaboration with One Race Global Film Foundation presented a special writing workshop for students with Ligiah Villalobos, writer of Go Diego! Go! and La misma luna. Villalobos offered specific advice related to the creation of strong characters and powerful stories lines to the up-and-coming screenwriters that attended the workshop.

GMAI, One Race Global Film Foundation and NYU’s Opportunity Programs will continue to organize Screenwriting Group events. The Group currently consists of 14 members.

GMAI is dedicated to providing professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.

GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
