New York, July 14, 2008

The six Dominican students awarded scholarships by GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) to study television and film production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts began their six-week academic program on July 7, 2008.

During the course, students will learn how to use composition, light and sound to create effective commercials and short films. Participants will be exposed to all aspects of the creation process, from preproduction to postproduction, developing competency in the areas of script and story board development, camera usage, the use of sound and light, and editing.

As it relates to the script writing component of the class, students will develop their analytical and critical writing skills through the exploration and application of different writing strategies including: description, narration, definition, exemplification, analogy, explanation, comparison and contrast, cause and effect and argument.

Course instruction will be provided by Irving Vincent and George Argento, Director and Technical Director, respectively, of NYU’s Opportunity Programs.

The six Dominican students selected to participate in the program are:

  • Alberto Matos (Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo)
  • José Manuel Taveras (Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra)
