2008 Summer Course on Audiovisual Production Commences
New York, June 2, 2008
Today, June 2, 2008, marked the first day the Global Media Arts Institute’s summer course, “Introduction to Audiovisual Production: Film and Television.” The course is being offered for the third time, in collaboration with New York University’s Opportunity Program and One Race Films.
On this day, the twenty three students enrolled in the course were welcomed by Director of FUNGLODE’s Audiovisual Department, Omar de la Cruz and Instructors Irving Vincent and George Argento of New York University’s Opportunity Programs.
The aspiring audiovisual professionals began their introduction to the art of television and film production by learning about the intricacies of video camera usage. In order to stimulate ideas and give students a better sense of the creative potential that can be achieved with each class assignment, they were also shown exceptional projects realized by previous students.
This one of a kind, hands-on class is designed to equip students with real-life skills used by professionals in the television and film industry. Throughout the course, students will have the chance to learn about the responsibilities associated with each component of the production process.
The first week of the course, students will develop a 30 second commercial or public service announcement, and will then learn how to edit it using Final Cut Pro. The second week of the course, students will learn about the production of live television programming at the Telecentro Studio. The third week of the course, students will utilize the software, Final Draft, to produce a 3 page script. During the final week of the course, four 10-15 minute films will be chosen to be realized. All projects will be directed, produced and edited by the students.
GMAI, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is dedicated to providing up-and-coming professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic.
