The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), brought experts in Latin American television culture to the country to realize activities and exchange opportunities with authorities in the areas of audiovisual arts and technology. The objective of the event was to promote the development of the audiovisual industry in the country with special emphasis on educational and cultural programming.
Luz Amalia Camacho, Manager of Proyecto Telecaribe/ Canal Universitario Nacional de Colombia, and César Tulio Ossa, Director of Centro Atico and Manager of Centro Audiovisual de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, met with President of the Dominican Republic and Honorary President of GFDD and FUNGLODE, Dr. Leonel Fernández, as well as with the Rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Franklin García Fermín, and former Rector, Roberto Reyna.
In addition to these reunions, during conferences at FUNGLODE Headquarters, both experts discussed the gains achieved by their projects before an audience of individuals connected to the audiovisual industry in the country.
On Monday, May 26, Camacho presented the conference, “Educational and Cultural Television as a Pedagogical Tool: Programming and Production.” Later that Wednesday, Ossa gave a presentation titled “Technological Innovation to Support Advancement of Television, Film, Sound and Visualization in Latin America.”
Omar de la Cruz, Sandra Cavadid and Taína Rodríguez of the GMAI team coordinated the work sessions and conferences with the Colombian specialists who acknowledged and commended the advances taking place in the country in the area of audiovisual technology, and the possibility for exchange and cooperation between both nations in an effort to strengthen the production of educational and cultural audiovisual material.
In her presentation, Camacho outlined the steps taken to create the Canal Universitario Nacional (National University Channel) in Colombia in 2006, with the participation of renowned scholars in the country.
