GMAI to Show Short Films Made by Dominicans at the Film and TV School in Cuba
Santo Domingo, August 26, 2010

Film productions by Dominican students who studied at the International Film and TV School in San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) will be shown this Saturday August 28 at the FUNGLODE auditorium at 6:00 pm.

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) of FUNGLODE is hosting the evening’s showing of the short films made by Dominican students who studied at the International Film and TV School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) to be held this Saturday, August 28.

The film showing, to begin at 6:00 pm, will include fictional short films as well as documentaries made by Dominican students who studied this past academic year (2009-2010) at the film school in Cuba.

The shorts to be shown are: “Vecino” (Neighbor) directed by Argenis Mills and filmed by photographer César Zayas; “Pablo Lara,” written by Amelia del Mar Hernández; “Abuelito dime tu” (Grandma, Tell Me) directed by Carlos Ortíz; “El Teatro de la utopía”, (The Utopia Theater) with Leticia Brea as producer and Michelle Guzmán as screenwriter; “Una playa distante” (A Distant Beach) also produced by Leticia Brea; “Si seguimos vivos” (If We Are Still Alive), with César Zayas as director of photography and “Un peso más” (One More Weight), directed by Kike Cubero, an invited guest from Puerto Rico.

The new Dominican filmmakers trained at the EICTV have borne fruit at prestigious international festivals. Such is the case with the first of FUNGLODE’s scholarship students, Johanne Gómez Terrero, who made the short film “Los minutes, las horas” (The Minutes, the Hours) which was seen at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. This film will also be shown on Saturday.

Gómez’s film won the Special Jury Award at the Havana International Film Festival and the Award for the Best Direction of a Short Film by a Woman at the Cinema Pobre of Humberto Solas.

This year, 2010, Dominican students at the EICTV were Argenis Mills, who specialized in directing; Amelia del Mar Hernández, who specialized in screen writing and César Zayas who studied to be a director of photography.
All the students who studied at the film school received a diploma and very good marks based on their work and their theses.

The GMAI offers a scholarship program for Dominican students to be able to attend regular training courses at the EICTV, a film school that has developed an intense program of collaboration throughout the entire year.
For the upcoming September 2010 course, three more Dominican students have been chosen. Currently seven students are taking courses at the prestigious Cuban film school as part of the scholarship program.

The International Film and TV School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV), considered to be one of the most important institutions of its kind in the world, has been working with FUNGLODE since 2006.
