Dominican Students Wrapping up Film Internships in New York

On August 15th the five Dominican students will finish the film training courses they took through the One Race Global Film Foundation and New York University Opportunity Program in coordination with the Global Media Arts Institute of FUNGLODE.

They´re involved in the pre-production and post-production process as part of their training experience under the program developed by One Race Global Film Foundation and New York University Opportunity Programs, in coordination with the Global Media Arts Institute of FUNGLODE.

Martha María Pichardo, Ramón Moisés Abreu, Andreina Vanderhorst, Annie Jiménez, Alexandra Tabar and Elena Gómez will wrap up their training course on August 15th.

Throughout the course, which began on July 6, the young Dominican students have assumed different roles in the filmmaking process including editing their own projects.

Each student has the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of each position and to put into practice the knowledge they´re acquiring. During the creative process the students are learning to transmit their ideas and visions to their colleagues, developing skills or oral expression.

They are acquiring techniques necessary to take their stories from paper to the screen and, as a final assignment, they will present their own films, made during this intense 6-week training period, to the public.

Every year, the program, coordinated by the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) which is an initiative of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), offers five scholarships to students between the ages of 18 and 20 years old who are interested in audiovisuals and/or television and film production.

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must have a 3.0 academic average. In the case of university students, their average must be higher than 80 percent. Applicants must also have a US visa, speak good English and be available for the months of July and August.
