The course, to be held in the FUNGLODE classrooms from Monday July 19 to July 30, is for children from 8 to 14 years of age. There will be two course times to choose from: 9:00 am to 12 noon and 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The fee is $8,500 pesos.

The Global Media Arts Institute, of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) is sponsoring the “Lights, Camera, Action” course and inviting children between the ages of 8-14 to join in. The goal is to introduce children to the creative process of film.

Those interested in the course, which costs $8,500 pesos, can fill out an application available at: igm@globalmediaarts.org or call 809-685-9966 ext. 2110. Pablo E. Ramos, Cuban psychology graduate with a Masters in Communications Science, will be the teacher of the course whose objective is to provide, through a participatory, practical and recreational methodology, the development of capacities and knowledge that children can use to evaluate films, from a creative point, and to give them the skills and outlets to express themselves using their own codes of communication.

The course was conceived to take place over a period of two weeks with five 3-hour sessions per day.

Throughout these two weeks the course will touch on the elemental principles of film language, look closely at the phases that occur in film creation as well as the uses of camera and editing equipment. They will shoot and edit a short film based on their collective ideas.

Mr. Ramos has participated in the Dialogues of Superior Studies at the International Film and TV School of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba as well as different post-graduate courses in Psychology, Communication and other related topics offered at the University of Havana and the Complutense University in Madrid.
