News GMAI of FUNGLODE Organizes “Global Filmmaking for Peace and Development” The Global Media Arts Institute, through FUNGLODE, is developing a project in coordination with One Race Global Films Foundation, which is bringing together 30 students from the United States, Israel, Iran, India, Palestine, Haiti, Senegal and the Dominican Republic.
This fifth edition of the course marks the beginning of the Global Filmmaking for Peace and Development (GFPD). The course began last Monday, May 24 and will continue through June 27th. Twelve students from the Dominican Republican, selected by means of an open call, are taking part in the course. Irving Vincent and George Argento, director and technical coordinator from New York University’s Opportunity Programs, are in charge of the course which is being held from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The GFPD project seeks to integrate young people from various parts of the world in a process of learning and creation through films, shorts and documentaries that essentially contain messages of peace, democratic values and development. The now 5-year-old program, developed by GMAI and One Race Global Films Foundation, is entering a new phase within its objectives of training young people to work in the film and television industry. In the understanding that audiovisual media has the capacity to give a voice to the voiceless and build a powerful instrument to spread a message of world peace, development and democratic values among all people, the GMAI has integrated this film production course for the purpose of furthering peace and development worldwide.
