News DRGFF is represented at NALIP 2010: Navigating in
a Sea of Change Conference For the third year in a row, a team from Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF), represented by Taina Rodriguez and Raymond Jaquez attended the 11th annual National Conference for NALIP, (The National Association of Latino Independent Producers) which gathers Latinos in the film and entertainment industry from across the globe for a weekend conference. Over 500 established and emerging media professionals participated in the weekend’s mix of discussions, producing opportunities, networking and educational events, which began with a keynote lunch conversation between CNN author Soledad O’Brien (Latino in America) and writer-producer Roberto Orci (Transformers, Mission Impossible 3). The presence of a DRGFF display stand allowed the distribution of marketing and informational material, gave ample opportunities to network with media professionals, and provided a platform for sourcing potential new funding for this year’s Dominican Global Film Festival, 16-21 November 2010 – an initiative of GFDD/FUNGLODE. NALIPs event, which attracted leading industry names from the Latino Community, showcased new developments in media, distribution and marketing, and examined current practices for writers, directors, producers and performers in a rapidly changing environment. Attendees were also able to learn about funding directions, and to discuss new models of production and distribution in a series of conversations, panels and workshops with notable and accomplished producers, writers, actors and directors. Capping off the conference was the presentation of NALIP’s highly anticipated 2010 Estela Awards. $7,500 cash grant prizes are presented to two talented and upcoming Latino filmmakers. The 2010 Estela for a narrative filmmaker went to Peter Bratt, the critically acclaimed filmmaker whose most recent project is the soon-to-be-released, La Mission. Nicolas Entel, a multi-award winning documentarian, received the Estela Award for his documentary work; his new project, Sins of My Father premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and will be broadcast on HBO. The NALIP 2010 conference is one of six national signature professional development programs that NALIP produces in order to inspire the next generation of Latino filmmakers, executives, and future leaders. It is designed to provide members with a fresh approach to media making, and present dynamic opportunities for establishing strategic alliances with seasoned content makers. NALIP is a vital tool and community support system for any Latino content creator looking to bring positive change and make a profound impact in the entertainment industry. Related links: |
