FUNGLODE Recognizes International Women’s Month
Santo Domingo, April 13, 2010

In commemoration of International Women’s Month, the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the Franklin Center of the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic held a film series in which they showed “A League of Their Own” and “Maria Full of Grace.”

The films were shown at the School and Auditorium of the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center where hundreds of primary and high school students enjoyed both presentations of the seventh art.

Others present at the activity included representatives of the US Embassy in the DR and such personalities as Stefany Espinal, Francisco Pérez, Brett Hernández and Francoise Bramdyka. They all participated in a discussion about how to pay tribute to the role undertaken by many women in today’s society who hold commendable positions in jobs which, until very recently, were exclusively occupied by men.

This gathering also served to highlight the skill of women who, empowered by their own self-worth, are setting examples for both men and women by showing that when one wants to achieve something, one must be insistent, persevering and capable of recognizing one’s personal strengths and weaknesses.

Representing the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center was Leo Corporan and Taina Rodríguez of FUNGLODE.

Screening films focused on certain topics of interest seeks to acquaint participants with issues as well as strengthen their knowledge thus encouraging them to be carriers of information and proposals that contribute to the sustainable and unstoppable development in a society which is more and more demanding.
