GMAI to Offer a Series of Conferences on Documentary Film Making

Under the title, “The Participant’s View,” the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) in coordination with the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) of San Antonio de los Baños, will offer a series of conferences on the Construction of Documentary Projects from March 22 to 27 at FUNGLODE headquarters in Santo Domingo.

With the goal of contributing to the comprehension and appreciation of the audiovisual arts, the workshop will highlight the documentary -- its history and development; its various forms from the point of view of function, including style and method. The course will also demonstrate the possibilities of the genre as a form of expression.

The conference cycle will be given by Rolando Almirante Castillo, producer, scriptwriter, audiovisual producer and creative director of advertising. He is also a Professor of Audiovisual Arts at the University of Havana, the ISA Art Institute, and the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He is also member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of the United States.

The Global Media Arts Institute seeks to play a fundamental role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the Dominican Republic.

The GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes cultural events that promote a better understanding of the media arts by offering screenings, panel discussions and interviews with filmmakers and technicians.
