The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in association with Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), will organize a workshop on Art Direction. The workshop will take place February 8-12, 2010, at FUNGLODE Headquarters.

Course instruction will be both practical and theoretical. Key components that will be emphasized include: the function of art direction within cinematographic production; the history of art direction as an aesthetic; production design; and contemporary visual arts. The workshop will cover all aspects of visual affects from set design and special affects to costume creation and hair and makeup. Practical components will include set and costume design. Instruction will be provided by Corina Mestre, Professor of Art Direction at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión and Instituto Superior de Arte.

GMAI is dedicated to providing professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.

GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
