GMAI to Offer Course on Scriptwriting
New York, 1/15/2010

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will offer a two-week course on scriptwriting in collaboration with Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba. The workshop will be held nightly February 1-12, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The objective of the course is to teach students about the elements of scriptwriting, including nomenclature, character development, dialogue and plot development, with the end goal of producing a 10-minute script at the close of the course. Students will also learn about elements of projection, film analysis and review and studio production. Course instruction will be provided by Professor Eliseo Altunaga.  

GMAI is dedicated to providing up-and-coming professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.

GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.

About Eliseo Altunaga

Professor Altunaga is a 1976 graduate of the University of Havana with a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature.  He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Play and Screenwriting in the department of Audiovisual Communication at the Superior Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana, Cuba.  Previously, he spent many years serving as the Head of Screenwriting at the world-renowned International School of Cinema and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.  

As a writer, Professor Altunaga has adapted hundred of literary works to radio and written hundreds of original programming, including feature films, television series and soap operas.  In addition he has edited countless scripts and published two novels and a book of short stories.
