GMAI, Universal Studios and One Race Film Foundation Present Short Films “Los Bandoleros” and “Rápido y Furioso en el Caribe” at Club Mauricio Báez in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, May 14, 2009

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), in collaboration with Universal Studios and One Race Film Foundation, presented the screening of the short films “Los Bandoleros” and “Rápido y Furioso en el Caribe” at Club Mauricio Báez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Universal Studios and the One Race Film Foundation chose to realize the event in order to express their gratitude to the professionals and authorities of the Dominican Republic and to the students of GMAI and the One Race Film Foundation involved in the creation of the two films for their dedication, hospitality and professionalism. President Leonel Fernández participated in the event, confirming his commitment to the development of the film industry in the Dominican Republic.

About “Los Bandoleros”

“Los Bandoleros” is a short film shot entirely in the Dominican Republic. A team of volunteer industry professionals, local professionals and students of GMAI and the Once Race Film Foundation played an instrumental role in the film’s creation. The film, written and directed by Vin Diesel, and produced by Juan Basanta, Linel Hernández, Giselle Mangual, Ramses Jiménez and María José Peña, will be released in July of 2009. The film’s protagonists include: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodríguez, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Mirtha Michelle and Juan Fernández.

The experience of contributing to the production of the film provided GMAI and One Race Film Foundation students the chance to learn about film creation under the guidance of highly qualified specialists. This unique opportunity illustrates the instrumental role GMAI can play in coordinating collaboration between local communities and the Hollywood cinematographic industry.

The activity began at 7:00 pm with a red carpet procession of invited guests, including cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodríguez, Tego Calderón, Mirtha Michelle and Juan Fernández. A cocktail for invited guests followed the film screening.

GMAI, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is dedicated to providing professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.

GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
