GMAI Staff Member Participates in TeleSUR Training Program in Venezuela
New York, June 8, 2009

telesurJesús Frías, a Global Media Arts Institute staff member, is presently participating in the teleSUR training program, “Audiovisual Journalism,” in Venezuela, in order to strengthen the capabilities of GMAI in the areas of broadcast journalism, audiovisual editing and television production. The training began March 23rd and will continue until June 22nd.

The professional training program seeks to enhance the qualifications of television journalists so as to encourage efficient and effective reporting that working at teleSUR and on TV in order to report the news in a solid and efficient manner to the public, as a means of promoting societal values.

The program consists of courses related to audiovisual language, television production, photography direction, broadcast journalism and audiovisual editing. It also includes courses on history, economics and politics to allow an understanding of international conflicts, global, regional and local. The courses are taught by professionals from renowned institutions such as teleSUR, PDVSA, NTV, Reuters and Aljazzera.

TeleSUR, is a multi-state company, created with the support from six countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela. It is an informative channel that transmits Latin American news, documentaries and opinion and analysis programs 24 hours a day.

GMAI is dedicated to providing professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.

GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
