DRGFF Participates in NALIP Conference 10: A Decade of Influence
New York, April 30, 2009
The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF),
an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)
and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE),
attended the NALIP Conference 10: A Decade of Influence, which took
place April 17-19, 2009 at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California.
Through participating in the Conference, the DRGFF team, represented by
Taína Rodríguez and Raymond Jaquez, had the opportunity to become familiar
with the latest cinematographic trends, first-hand from some of the most
innovative industry professionals, and vanguard projects to date, in an
effort to take away valuable lessons that will contribute to the growth and
development of GFDD and FUNGLODE’s projects in the area of audiovisual
arts, in particular, programs and activities realized by the Global Media
Arts Institute (GMAI). Rodríguez and Jaquez were also accompanied by GMAI
scholarship recipients Victor Díaz, Edward de los Santos, María de los
Ángeles and Luís Corporan – UASD students and Dominican Republic NALIP
members.
The conference offered a wide array of seminars and workshops pertaining to
diverse aspects of the Latino multimedia industry such as: actor marketing,
the Latino Media Market, Pan-Latino cinema and pitch sessions.
Participation in NALIP is a must for all professionals affiliated with the
development of the rising Latino film industry. NALIP, the National
Association of Latino Independent Producers, is committed to promoting the
advancement and funding of Latino film and multimedia productions, and
seeks to raise awareness of issues of historic and cultural importance to
the Latino community.
The conference presented the opportunity for professional networking and
the exchange of ideas concerning the present state of the Latino
cinematographic industry, and its interests and possibilities.
DRGFF plays a leading role in nurturing film culture in the Dominican
Republic by bringing the best of international narrative and documentary
film to a wide audience. The Festival raises awareness and deepens
understanding of global challenges while using film as a modern platform
for the discussion of political, social and economic issues. It supports
capacity building, provides network opportunities for Dominican
professionals and fosters the development of a strong and sustainable
national film industry.
