Collaboration with NYU’s Opportunities Program and One Race Films
New York, April 3, 2009
The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global
Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)
and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE),
will offer for the fourth time, in collaboration with New York University’s
Opportunity Program and One Race Films, the summer course “Introduction to
Audiovisual Production: Film and Television.” Classes will be held June
1-26, 2009 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo
Domingo.
The objective of the course is to equip Dominican students with the
skills necessary to work in the film and television industry. Each student
will have the chance to learn about the responsibilities associated with
each component of the production process and will then have the opportunity
to apply their acquired knowledge. Throughout the course, students will
also be provided with the opportunity to fine-tune their oral communication
skills, in turn, furthering their capacity to effectively convey their
creative visions to their colleagues.
Week 1: Students will develop a 30 second commercial or public service
announcement, and will then learn how to edit it using Final Cut Pro.
Week 2: Students will learn about the production of live television
programming at the Telecentro Studio.
Week 3: Students will utilize the software, Final Draft, to produce a 3
page script.
Week 4: Four 10-15 minute films will be chosen to be developed. All
projects will be directed, realized and edited by the students.
Course instruction will be provided by Irving Vincent and George Argento,
Director and Technical Director, respectively, of New York University’s
Opportunity Programs.
